The Alumni, How it started ……

It all started in the year December 2000 when Premachandran, of Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company, brought a book of membership forms while coming back from Kannur. It was given to him by his daughter who was then a student of SN College. The official Alumni Association of  S.N College, known as Sree Narayana College Kannur Old Students Association was undertaking a membership drive to get all old students worldwide to join their association. The book had 100 membership application forms and the membership fees was Indian Rupees 100/.

Premachandran later handed over the book to his brother-in-law, Dinesh U.P who, like his usual enterprising self, could not resist the opportunity of meeting and socializing with old students and friends. He and Kalyan Krishnan set out to contact as many old students as possible, by visiting them personally. The response was so good, that the membership forms finished in no time and the proceeds sent to Kannur soon after. It was during their calls and visits when lots of people suggested starting an association here that the idea of forming an association in Abu Dhabi hatched in their minds.

The enterprising thinking and dedicated efforts of Dinesh and Kalyan, set in motion a chain of events that led to the formation of the SN College Kannur  Abu Dhabi Alumni Association. They lost no time, in contacting the Late N. Rajagopal, the founder of the Dubai SN College Association who gave his whole hearted blessings and entrusted Vidhu, a co-founder to extend all possible help and to guide them to take the initial steps. Membership forms and receipt books were designed and the Bylaws were drafted and printed.

It was a day of reunion. Several old friends met for the first time in Abu Dhabi. A lot suggestions on how to go forward and plans for future activities were made. Everyone agreed that the primary objective of our association was to meet old friends and socialize by having frequent family get togethers and also contribute to humanitarian causes. It was decided to have the first family get together at ISC. The event was a huge success with a large crowd turning up and everyone enjoying fun filled games, entertainment programs and an excellent lunch thereafter.

The first annual General Body was held in Bin Hamooda Park combined with a Family Get together. There was a slight reshuffle in the committee. Wadood became Vice President, Ajit  the Asst. Treasurer and Sujith replaced Sreejith as Joint Secretary. Anil Thamban left for Al Ain and Bhaskar, Rajeev C.P., Sulaiman, Sushil and Anand were inducted into the executive committee.

Later, Premarajan P.V. our treasurer left the country and Umanthan was appointed as treasurer. Lots of exiting activities, programs and get togethers followed. The founder members can be proud to say that their initial efforts were not in vain and  the S.N. College Kannur, Abu Dhabi Alumni Association now has over 100 members and is still continuing to grow.
